The 41-year-old NBA superstar has been making headlines for his unusual travel arrangement between New York and Philadelphia, with LeBron reportedly using a helicopter to get to the Sixers’ facility. LeBron James’ commute has NBA fans doing some serious mental math. Naturally, once pictures of the chopper started making the rounds, one question quickly followed: LeBron choosing to live in New York while playing for Philadelphia already made his travel plans an interesting talking point. Add a private helicopter to the equation, and suddenly the commute looks a whole lot more extravagant. A helicopter flight between the two cities can cost thousands of dollars, depending on the aircraft and operator. So it didn’t take long for the price tag to become part of the conversation. On the surface, it certainly looks like the kind of luxury only an NBA superstar could casually build into his daily routine. But there’s a twist.

Because of sciatica affecting his lower back and right side, leBron also missed the first 14 games of the 2025-26 season.

He is reportedly dealing with chronic arthritis in his left foot, with longtime trainer Mike Mancias giving the foot “special attention” during his daily pre-practice routine. For a player whose schedule revolves around practices, games, recovery and constant travel, saving hours on the road is obviously convenient. It also helps explain why the superstar’s helicopter commute has become such a talking point. The helicopter arrangement comes as LeBron continues to manage the physical demands of an NBA career that has lasted more than two decades.
