Hubballi : A Class 6 student from Sankatikoppa village in Kalghatgi taluk is recovering from a severe spinal cord injury after falling from a bunk bed at a Backward Classes Welfare hostel in Kiravatti, Yellapur taluk. His family has sought govt financial assistance for treatment costing about Rs 20 lakh so far. Manoj Vithal Doyipude suffered an injury in the neck region on Aug 3 and was rushed to Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute in Hubballi. He was shifted to Shri Balaji Institute of Neuroscience and Trauma on Aug 4 and spent 60 days in intensive care. Santosh Lad Foundation provided the family with Rs 1 lakh in financial assistance.
Yellapur taluk backward classes welfare officer Drakshayani Naik said Manoj continued to receive treatment at a private hospital. She said labour minister Santosh Lad had visited the hospital and assured financial assistance through the labour department. Snehal visited the hospital and assured the family of support.
