Chandrapur: Days before the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest in New Delhi, the Ballarpur police have issued a preventive notice to members of the party here, asking them not to participate in the Oct 10 agitation. Cops also sought details about their proposed travel, financial backing and reasons for joining the protest.
The notice, issued on Oct 5, a copy of which is with TOI, says the police have received information that the CJP members could travel to Delhi to participate in the protest.
The police have cited restrictions currently in force in Chandrapur district and said the notice has been issued as a preventive measure to maintain law and order. Sources said that two CJP members from Ballarpur got the notice. They have also been cautioned against making social media posts relating to the agitation that could affect the law-and-order situation. The notice questions who is financially supporting the proposed Delhi mobilisation and why the workers intend to participate in the protest. The police have not publicly disclosed what specific intelligence or material prompted the notices. The particular CJP worker mentioned in the notice has been warned that ignoring the directions and subsequently causing a law-and-order situation could invite further action. As police remained tight-lipped, it could not be ascertained how many police stations in Chandrapur have issued such notices to CJP members.
Posting the notice on social media platform X on Tuesday, CJP leader Abhijit Dipke questioned the police action and alleged that Maharashtra Police were seeking details of volunteers’ expenses for travelling to Delhi while warning that the protest could turn violent.
