Speaking after the visit, Roshan said male prisoners who have completed 14 years and women who have completed 10 years of imprisonment could be eligible for release if they have maintained good conduct and have not frequently availed themselves of parole. Roshan said inmates at the prison manufacture various household items and stressed the need to provide skill-development opportunities to those released on grounds of good conduct to help them rebuild their lives. Roshan, accompanied by city police commissioner Prakash Nikam, reviewed the functioning of the prison, security arrangements and facilities provided to inmates. He also sought information about prisoners who have completed the prescribed period of imprisonment and maintained good conduct during incarceration. Products manufactured by inmates are already used in govt offices, while arrangements are also being made to sell prison-made products at trade fairs. During the inspection, the DC reviewed the quality of food and drinking water, sanitation and medical facilities available to inmates. He also discussed with prison authorities the status of cases involving undertrials, the need to provide legal aid to long-term inmates and procedures for releasing prisoners who have completed their sentences. Roshan also sought details of skill-development programmes and behavioural improvement activities conducted for inmates. He directed prison officials to organise a coordination meeting involving various departments to further strengthen rehabilitation initiatives. Belagavi: Deputy commissioner Mohammad Roshan visited Hindalga Central Prison on Monday as part of his monthly review of security and prison administration, and sought details of inmates eligible for premature release based on good conduct.
