Mangaluru : Principal Senior Civil Judge and ACJM, Puttur, sentenced a 41-year-old man to two years’ simple imprisonment for attempting to escape while being produced before a court for trial in a murder case .

The accused, Jayesh alias Jayesh Kanth S, alias Shahir alias Shakir, a resident of Siribagilu in Puttur, was brought from district prison in Mangaluru to the 5th Additional District and Sessions Court in Puttur for trial in a case registered at the Uppinangady police station registered in 2008 under sections 450, 302 and 201 of the IPC. Following this, Puttur Town police registered a case in 2016 under section 224 of the IPC for resistance or obstruction to lawful apprehension. the accused allegedly made a sudden attempt to escape and fled from the court premises While the court proceedings were under way. The then Puttur Town police sub-inspector Khader, who investigated the case, had filed the chargesheet. Public Prosecutor Manoj Kumar represented the prosecution and argued the case.

After the trial, Judge Prakriti Kalyanpur on Monday sentenced the accused to two years’ simple imprisonment.
