Mishra also sought concrete measures to tackle severe flooding in Faizullaganj in Lucknow, where, she said, more than 35,000 houses had been affected by waterlogging due to the absence of an embankment along the Gomti.
In her letter, Mishra said several districts were facing a worsening flood situation following heavy rain and rising river levels. She said Lakhimpur, Sitapur, Hardoi, Barabanki, Ayodhya, Balrampur and Kushinagar were also affected, with breaches and rising water levels threatening several villages. Mishra said thousands of people had been forced to leave their homes and thousands of hectares of agricultural land was submerged.
She cited crop damage and displacement in Itaunja and Bakshi-ka-Talab areas of Lucknow, besides waterlogging in Mama Colony, Daudnagar, Loharamau and Ghaila in Faizullaganj. She sought immediate relief and alternative arrangements for affected people, along with a strategy for permanent solutions to recurring flooding. Lucknow: UP Congress president Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ on Tuesday wrote to chief minister Yogi Adityanath seeking immediate assessment of crop losses and compensation for farmers in flood-affected areas, besides measures to prevent infections and diseases in waterlogged districts.
