Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended licence of an oil repacking unit at Vaijapur under ‘Safe Food Safe Maharashtra’ campaign .Suspecting the stock to be substandard and misbranded, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized 10,798.4kg of refined palmolein oil worth Rs 23,32,455 from a unit on Gangapur Road at Ghaygaon. The unit scored only 36 out of 86 marks (42%) and was declared Non-Compliant, FDA officials said. Drinking water used for production had no test report as per IS:10500 standard,” FDA joint commissioner Shrikaant Karkale said. The unit scored only 15 out of 94 marks (16%). The FDA seized and destroyed 59kg paneer, 11kg cream and 28kg ghee worth Rs 42,880.

The action was taken by a team led by food safety officer Pragya Surse during an inspection of the unit, which was found violating FSSAI norms and maintaining poor hygiene standards. “The floor was found oily and broken, packing material and food articles were stored openly on the ground, and iron tanks were used instead of mandatory stainless steel tanks. He added, “Doors were kept open and windows had no insect-proof nets, posing a risk of contamination. No proper pest control system was in place, workers had no hand gloves and aprons, and no trained staff was present. Temperature control records were also not maintained.
