Ahmedabad: More than half of Ahmedabad’s dengue burden for the first nine months of 2026 was recorded in Sept alone, with 756 cases accounting for 56.3% of the 1,344 cases reported between Jan and Sept, according to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) epidemic data. The North West Zone emerged as the worst-affected area, reporting 186 dengue cases in Sept, including 99 detected at govt facilities and 87 in private hospitals. It was followed by West Zone with 155 cases and South Zone with 125.

Action is being taken to drain this water and spray insecticides to destroy mosquito breeding grounds,” the official said. The sharp post-monsoon surge has been linked to mosquito breeding in stagnant rainwater, particularly after a prolonged pause in rain. “Following the pause in rainfall, a survey was conducted on open plots across various parts of the city where rainwater had accumulated for an extended period. AMC is also collecting dengue data from private hospitals and plans to issue notices to hospitals that fail to share the figures.
