Pune: Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has directed the state registration and stamps department to undertake a three-day special drive from Oct 7 to 9 to clear 2,316 pending cases involving refunds of stamp duty and registration fees across Maharashtra . Cases requiring higher-level approval will be processed under Section 52-A of the Maharashtra Stamp Act. “The drive will reduce the backlog, and eligible citizens will get their refunds faster and in a more transparent and efficient manner,” said deputy Inspector General of Registration (IGR) Rajendra Muthe. The drive will be conducted under Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps Ravindra Binwade and will focus on reducing the backlog pending before stamp district collector offices and expediting quasi-judicial proceedings. The cases include claims where stamp duty or registration fee was paid but the transaction was subsequently cancelled, as well as cases involving excess payment. During the drive, officials will scrutinise pending applications, verify documents, approve or reject claims and prepare treasury dues. Joint teams have been constituted for the exercise. For offices in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Ahilyanagar, Nashik and Nagpur, stamp collectors, officers and staff from other districts have been deputed for two days to assist in clearing the pending cases.
