Kolkata : Veteran actor and BJP neta Mithun Chakraborty has been appointed cultural adviser to the Bengal govt, with cabinet minister rank, in the state Information and Cultural Affairs department. A notification was issued by the State Personnel Administration and Reforms department.
Soon after, Chakraborty said he had sought a 30% subsidy for film productions shooting in Bengal, which had been agreed to by the CM. Chakraborty, a prominent figure in Bengali and Hindi cinema, has also emerged as a key BJP campaigner in Bengal and campaigned extensively during the 2026 Assembly elections. CM Suvendu Adhikari had announced during the centenary celebrations of Bengali screen icon Uttam Kumar last month that Chakraborty would be given the role.
