The state govt has constituted a high-level 16-member task force: The wider industry impact

The panel will create a roadmap to cover preventive care, timely screening, treatment and rehabilitation

Thiruvananthapuram : The state govt has constituted a high-level 16-member task force to develop a comprehensive healthcare model focused on disease prevention, early detection, quality treatment and healthy ageing.

“Instead of waiting for diseases to occur and then seeking treatment, the government aims to establish systems to prevent diseases,” the chief minister said, adding that Keralam sought to develop a healthcare model that could serve as an example to the world.

The ‘Kerala Holistic Model for Health, Wellness and Longevity Task Force’ will be headed by chief minister V D Satheesan, with health minister K Muraleedharan as vice-chairman and experts from the healthcare sector as members. The panel has been tasked with preparing an evidence-based, implementable roadmap for a phased prevention and early detection framework, besides appropriate treatment and rehabilitation. The govt claimed that Keralam is the first state in the country to undertake such a comprehensive initiative covering disease prevention, early diagnosis, treatment and healthy ageing. The task force will examine the state’s disease burden, demographic ageing and healthcare infrastructure and recommend systems for preventive care and timely health screening. It will also explore the scope for integrating modern medicine with traditional systems, including ayurveda.
