Meerut: Two MBBS students of Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) in Moradabad were suspended and named in an FIR for allegedly falsifying a hostel attendance register to conceal one student’s overnight absence from campus on Sept 29, police said. The FIR was registered at Pakbara police station following a complaint by university official Vipin Jain under BNS sections 319(2) (cheating by personation) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy).

Police said one of the students, from the 2023-24 MBBS batch, remained outside Prakash Bhawan hostel through the night of Sept 29. During night attendance, his roommate, also from the same batch, allegedly signed the register on his behalf to conceal the absence.

University officials said both students admitted their mistake in writing and sought forgiveness. TMU media in-charge Dr MP Singh told TOI , “The incident, in which signatures were allegedly forged in the hostel attendance register to mislead the university administration, had come to the notice of the authorities. The two students are from Saharanpur and Lucknow. The university, however, suspended them and approached police over the alleged falsification of its official attendance record. We are the guardians of the students, and if something happens to them, we will be questioned. This action has been taken to send a strong message.”

Pakbara SHO Sunil Kumar said, “The FIR has been registered against the two MBBS students based on a complaint filed by a university official. Further action will be taken following the investigation.”
