AI survey finds 14k potholes on Bengaluru North corporation roads: The wider industry impact

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Bengaluru : An AI-based survey of 2,493.5km of roads across Bengaluru North City Corporation’s seven divisions and 72 wards has identified 14,393 potholes, with 82.1% of the surveyed roads classified as being in good-to-adequate condition.

The survey, conducted using real-time images captured through dashcams, found 1,426.8km of roads in good condition and another 607.1km with minor surface defects. Byatarayanapura division recorded the highest number of potholes at 5,964, followed by Sarvagnanagar with 2,359 and Pulikeshi Nagar (1,357). The survey also identified 102km of roads affected by utility works and 102.8km of unpaved roads.

The corporation said data will be used to prioritise road repairs and development, shifting road maintenance from a complaint-based approach to data- and technology-based planning. The remaining included localised road damage, utility-related damage and unpaved roads.
