Mumbai: Aditya Oswal (23), the lone survivor in last month’s BMW crash on Coastal Road, told police he does not remember anything about the accident. The car plunged 75 feet from Coastal Road’s second-level ramp near Haji Ali, killing three youngsters in the crash.
On Sept 20, the BMW was travelling from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali on the northbound carriageway. Police identified the deceased as Dhairya Sheth (17), Aditya Jakasania (19) and Shanay Gajjar (21), who was driving the car, which belonged to his family. The impact was so severe that one victim was thrown around 20 feet from the car and another was found outside the vehicle.
Police said the four names were mentioned due to a technical error and they rectified the mistake.
Police said they are awaiting the blood examination report of all four youths. Police said the driver was still partially inside the vehicle, with his leg on the accelerator. All the victims were from Gujarat. After the accident, Tardeo police had named all four youths in the FIR. A day later, they dropped three names and retained only Gajjar as an accused. The CCTV footage showed the BMW speeding. All airbags had deployed.
Investigators probing the case are also trying to find out the sequence of events before the accident.
A police source said they went to the hospital and spoke to Oswal. When we asked him about the accident, he said he did not remember anything,” said a police source. When the police asked him why he was in the hospital, Oswal reportedly told them that he was being treated for an injury to his hand, said the source, adding doctors asked them not to subject Oswal to intense questioning till his recovery is complete.
“He is finding it difficult to speak and walk properly. It will take some more time for his complete recovery.
