Jhansi : A 19-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead inside her house in Siddheshwar Nagar under the Sipri bazaar police station area on Wednesday. Police suspect that a young man known to her may have been behind the killing.
Senior police officers reached the spot after the incident and launched an investigation.
The woman has been identified as Chanchal, according to Jhansi SSP Vikas Kumar. Her father told police that the suspect Kamal was in a relationship with his daughter and was upset after her marriage was allegedly fixed with someone else and scheduled for December. The SSP said a preliminary examination indicated that the woman had suffered a firearm injury to her head, with apparent entry and exit wounds. Police said all aspects of the case, including the circumstances leading to the shooting and the suspect’s alleged involvement, were being examined. The accused would be arrested soon and strict legal action would follow, the SSP said.
The suspect is believed to have entered the house from the rear by scaling a wall, shot the woman and fled the scene. Four teams have been formed to identify and arrest the suspect.
The exact cause and circumstances of her death will be established after the postmortem examination and a detailed investigation.
