Nashik: Mayor Himgauri Aher has directed that a detailed report be submitted within 10 days on allegations of major financial irregularities in Nashik Municipal Corporation garden department’s procurement of benches and children’s play equipment. The move followed a stormy debate in Tuesday’s general body meeting.
Mudaliyar alleged that a package of 51 types of children’s play equipment, available in the market for around Rs 38 lakh, was procured by the civic department for Rs 81 lakh, causing a loss of nearly Rs 43 lakh to NMC. He further claimed that benches bought at Rs 21,000 apiece could be sourced from the same contractor for almost half the price, around Rs 10,000 each.
