Hyderabad : Telangana high court has sought a response from the state govt on a petition alleging procedural and regulatory violations at a mega blood donation camp conducted on Feb 23, 2025, at King’s Palace in Gudimalkapur. The petitioner, advocate Barkat Ali Khan, informed the court that 41 units of blood collected during the camp were later discarded, including units allegedly found to be HIV-positive and affected by other blood-borne infections. He alleged that the camp was conducted in violation of provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and guidelines governing voluntary blood donation camps.

Justice NV Shravan Kumar, who heard the matter on Oct 5, adjourned the case to Oct 12 for further hearing. Appearing in person, Khan contended that mandatory safeguards relating to donor screening; health assessment, counselling, consent and record keeping were not followed during the camp. He raised concerns over alleged deficiencies in HIV and hepatitis screening, inadequate donor health checks, the absence of proper counselling and documented consent, and the alleged failure to upload details of the camp on the e-RaktKosh portal. Khan argued that proper pre-donation screening could have prevented the collection of blood that was subsequently discarded, thereby avoiding wastage and reducing the risk of unsafe blood reaching patients, including those dependent on regular transfusions such as thalassemia sufferers.
