Microsoft’s most powerful Surface laptop yet.
The top configuration pairs a 20-core Nvidia Grace CPU and a 6,144-core Blackwell RTX GPU with 128GB of unified memory that both chips share. Microsoft says this lets the laptop run AI models with more than 120 billion parameters locally, with up to 1 petaflop of AI performance on paper. That variant costs $5,899.99 (around Rs 5.7 lakh). The base model has an 18-core CPU, a 5,120-core GPU and 24GB of memory, and it runs Windows 11 Home. Every configuration from 32GB upward ships with Windows 11 Pro. Microsoft’s own coding model, MAI Code 1.1 Flash, has been compressed to 53GB so it can run on the device. With its full 256K context window, though, it peaks at 75.5GB of memory. To handle the heat, the new cooling system has 2.5 times the thermal capacity of the current Surface laptops. The company also claims the laptop keeps 99% of its peak performance on battery. The offer runs only in the US and Canada, until November 23. For developers who work at a desk, the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box uses the same chip and ships in the US in November for $5,999 (about Rs 5.8 lakh).
India pricing and availability have not been announced yet.
Its “Break up with your MacBook” offer gives up to $1,000 back for trading in an eligible MacBook Pro. The key number is memory. The memory ceiling matters more than it first appears. In practice, only the 128GB variant can hold it comfortably. Later this month, GitHub Copilot will start splitting tasks between local and cloud models on these machines. The chassis is under 18mm thick and weighs around 2kg. Microsoft is also going directly after Mac owners.
