Edits now makes carousels.
Instagram ‘s video editing app Edits can now make carousels. Android support is on the way. The update is rolling out on iOS from today and lets creators mix photos, videos and text on one canvas before posting the result straight to Instagram.
Dan Moreno, a Design Engineer on the Edits team, said carousels came up repeatedly when creators were asked what they wanted from Edits next. The canvas is what sets this apart from simply lining up images. A single photo can stretch across two slides, and a headline can run over several, so the swipe becomes part of the post.
New slides can be added with the “+” button or by pulling from the right edge of the carousel, while the “…” menu on any slide handles duplicating, inserting and reordering. Presets saved in Edits, covering adjustments, colours, audio and text styles, are already available in the carousel editor. A creator’s signature font or colour grade moves over from Reels without being rebuilt. A layout tool drops several photos into preset grids, with adjustable padding and spacing. Each item in a layout can still get its own filter or adjustment. Instagram pointed to beauty creator Raven (@Beautymavenraven) as an early example. Her carousel walks through the makeup products she has been hooked on lately, from primer to foundation, using cutout stickers, a mix of clips and stills, and her trademark yellow font. Once done, carousels can be shared to Instagram directly from Edits, skipping the export-and-reupload step and the quality drop that often comes with it. They can also be downloaded and posted on other platforms. You use AI every day. Now get your AI Quotient. Take the AIQ test.
Users head to the Projects tab, hit the “+” button and choose Carousel. Getting started takes a few taps. After picking their photos and videos, they can arrange them on the canvas and edit with the tools Edits already has, including audio, text, filters, adjustments and cutouts.
