CRPF jawan dead, 5 hurt as truck rams 2 vehicles

Eturunagaram : A Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF ) jawan was killed and five people were seriously injured after a speeding truck hit two vehicles on National Highway-163 (Warangal-Eturunagaram) near Pasara forest toll in Tadvai police station limits on Thursday afternoon. The deceased was identified as M Ramakanth (35) from Karimnagar district, who served with CRPF’s 39th Battalion at Wazeedu mandal in Mulugu district. The crash caused a traffic jam stretching more than 2 km on the highway.

Tadvai sub-inspector K Jagadish said the four jawans were travelling in a DCM vehicle from Eturunagaram to Mulugu when the truck hit their vehicle. Three other battalion jawans, Girish Kumar, Prem Prakash and Ram Prasad, were injured. Sd Sofiya, a junior assistant, and P Ramesh, a typist at Govindaraipet Mandal Parishad Development Office, were also injured. The truck then hit an oncoming car carrying Sofiya and Ramesh, who were travelling to their MPDO office. Ramakanth died at the scene, while Sofiya and Ramesh were trapped in the car. Tadvai police reached the scene and deployed an earth mover to remove the truck, DCM vehicle and car.

“A case was registered and being investigated,” Jagadish said. Ramakanth’s body was taken to Mulugu govt hospital for postmortem, while the injured were shifted to MGM Hospital, Warangal, for treatment. Download the TOI App.
