Cops launch raids to nab Karaya parking extortionist

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kolkata: Cops have launched raids across south Kolkata to trace extortionist Nawazis Khan, alias Mohammad Nawazis alias Chiina Gabbar, after a fresh case of organised parking extortion was registered against him at Karaya Police Station.

The action followed a written complaint by Palm Avenue resident Farid Alam (25), who alleged that the accused had been running an illegal protection money racket targeting vehicle owners parking on Palm Avenue’s Ashoka Towers and Bondel Road. Alam had parked his vehicle near Ashoka Tower last month when Gabbar demanded a monthly protection fee of Rs 1,500 to continue parking there, according to the complaint. Alam further revealed that every night, Gabbar routinely extorts around Rs 200 from every vehicle parked along the stretch.
