Nagpur: Water storage in Totladoh reservoir, a crucial source: The wider industry impact

Nagpur: Water storage in Totladoh reservoir, a crucial source for the Pench system, has plunged to 49.85%, the lowest level in the last four years. Because the Pench system accounts for nearly 70% of the city’s present 740 MLD water supply, the sharp depletion is a cause for concern for the city.

Also, if the proposed 10% water cut from Oct 16 is applied proportionately, it would translate to nearly 74 MLD less water for the city, potentially reducing availability to around 666 MLD. The designed live storage of Totladoh is 1,016.93 million cubic metres (MCM). Water Resources Department data shows it had only 506.99 MCM on Oct 7. The reservoir was 99.92% full in 2025, 99.45% in 2024 and 98.45% in 2023. In just one year, the live storage has dropped by around 509 MCM or half in percentage terms. Of the 740 MLD of water Nagpur currently receives every day, 520 MLD comes from Pench-I, II, III and IV water treatment plants, while another 220 MLD is supplied through the Kanhan water treatment plant.

Officials maintained that drinking water will remain the priority and the proposed water reduction does not necessarily mean Nagpur’s drinking water supply will be cut by a full 10%. Kamthi-Khairi was at 78.16% on Oct 7, as compared to 98.43% a year ago. Khindsi stood at 66.17%, against 100% last year, while Nand was at 84.54%, compared with 100%. Wadgaon was at 58.98%, against 100% on the same date last year. With demand continuing at 740 MLD and a 10% reduction looming, the four-year low at Totladoh leaves Nagpur with little margin for error in the months ahead. # TOTLADOH STORAGE ON OCT 7 YEAR | LIVE STORAGE | % OF DESIGNED LIVE STORAGE 2026 | 506.99 MCM | 49.85% 2025 | 1,016.09 MCM | 99.92% 2024 | 1,011.35 MCM | 99.45% 2023 | 1,001.14 MCM | 98.45% Designed live storage: 1,016.93 MCM Fall from Oct 7, 2025: 509.10 MCM Drop in storage: 50.07 percentage points # NAGPUR’S DAILY WATER SUPPLY TOTAL SUPPLY: 740 MLD PENCH SYSTEM: 520 MLD Pench-I, II, III & IV WTPs KANHAN SYSTEM: 220 MLD # OTHER RESERVOIRS — OCT 7 RESERVOIR | 2026 | 2025 Kamthi-Khairi | 78.16% | 98.43% Khindsi | 66.17% | 100% Nand | 84.54% | 100% Totladoh | 49.85% | 99.92% Wadgaon | 58.98% | 100% # BIGGEST WORRY: Totladoh’s live storage has fallen by more than half in one year, from 99.92% to 49.85% You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Nagpur | Silver Rate in Nagpur | Bank Holidays in Nagpur | Public Holidays in Nagpur | Petrol Price in Nagpur | Diesel Price in Nagpur | CNG Price in Nagpur | LPG Price in Nagpur Stay updated with the latest Nagpur news.
