The campaign was launched on World Environment Day on June 5, 2026, and concluded on Oct 8. The initiative gained momentum under the ‘Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan’, organised to mark 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s public service and governance journey, according to AMC’s garden department.

AMC said the campaign was conceived as a long-term effort to make Ahmedabad a greener and more climate-resilient city. AMC said the objective extended beyond increasing tree numbers and focused on expanding green cover, improving air quality, protecting the environment and enhancing the city’s resilience to climate change. As part of the drive, a special plantation programme was held at Bhadaj, where chief minister Bhupendra Patel planted a sapling in the presence of Ahmedabad mayor Hitesh Barot. Inspired by the Prime Minister’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, the plantation drive was transformed into a citywide movement through public participation and institutional support. Citizens, social and voluntary organisations, educational institutions, corporate entities, associations, and public representatives actively contributed to the campaign.

Ahmedabad : The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday announced the successful completion of its ‘Mission Five Million Trees’ campaign, achieving its target of planting five million trees across the city.
