Kanpur: Teams of Food Safety and Drug Administration on Thursday raided two food establishments and seized goods worth Rs 5.88 lakh.

Another team took action at another establishment in Saket Nagar, Juhi and seized 108 cartons of refined groundnut oil, containing a total of 2,496 bottles worth Rs 2,88,000. A surprise raid conducted in Fazalganj found that the packaging of ‘proprietary edible fat’ did not comply with the category specified in the establishment’s licence. The team ordered the suspension of the establishment’s food business operations until further notice. Three samples of the edible fat were collected for testing.

Assistant commissioner (Food Safety) Sanjay Pratap Singh stated that the business operation was shut down after food products were found packed in a category different from the one specified in the licence.
