Kanpur: A 65-year-old factory guard was killed after a speeding loader hit him from behind in the Dada Nagar industrial area under the Govind Nagar police station limits in Kanpur on Wednesday night. The deceased, Gangadhari (65), a resident of Sarvodaya Nagar, was walking home after finishing his duty at a factory in Dada Nagar when the loader struck him, according to police.

Govind Nagar station in-charge Ashok Kumar Dubey said police were examining footage from nearby CCTV cameras to identify the loader driver. The driver fled with the vehicle. The impact threw him onto the road, leaving him seriously injured. The family subsequently informed the police. Govind Nagar police inspected the scene, took the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem examination. He added that the driver would be arrested soon.

Passersby tried to catch the driver, but he escaped. They used a mobile phone found with Gangadhari to inform his family. His son, Gautam, reached the spot and, with their help, took him to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
