The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Jhansi : A revenue lekhpal was caught allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 by a team of Anti-Corruption Organisation (ACO), Jhansi unit, in Lalitpur on Thursday.

Manoj Kumar , a resident of Tauriya village in Lalitpur, had approached the authorities alleging that lekhpal Vipul Kumar Tiwari was demanding Rs 20,000 to maintain the status quo over his land situated along a road, according to the complaint. He alleged that the lekhpal demanded Rs 15,000 as the first instalment of the bribe.

The ACO team led by inspector Shadab Khan laid a trap on Thursday and caught Tiwari accepting Rs 15,000 at his rented accommodation in Azadpura locality.

He even burnt the notes of bribe, said Khan. The team said that the allegations were further corroborated through CCTV footage and videos, following which legal proceedings were initiated against Tiwari at Kotwali police station in Lalitpur. On realising that he has been trapped, Tiwari hastily locked the doors from inside. The ACO team had to use force to open the door. They found smoke in the house and burnt remains of the currency notes from kitchen sink.

He was brought to Jhansi and will be presented in front of special magistrate on Friday.
