LUCKNOW: A 56-year-old Home Guard personnel allegedly strangled his wife and 32-year-old daughter to death using a mobile phone charging cable at their residence in the Bhola Kheda locality of Krishna Nagar in Lucknow on Friday morning.

Gupta told investigators that he was frustrated with his daughter’s personal life, according to police. He said that she had gone through two failed marriages and was now in a relationship with another man. Police said a case was being registered based on a complaint lodged by the couple’s elder daughter. Police said further investigation was underway.

The accused, identified as Ravindra Shankar Gupta, informed the police about the murders himself, following which a police team reached the spot and took him into custody. The incident took place in a lane near Gauri Studio, triggering panic in the neighbourhood. Both bodies were sent for post-mortem examinations to establish the exact cause of death and gather further evidence. Investigators are examining the circumstances leading to the killings and verifying the accused’s account of the family dispute.

His wife, however, was supportive of their daughter, a factor that reportedly contributed to tensions within the family.
