NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have drawn up an extensive security plan for the Cockroach Janata Party’s ( CJP ) proposed march to Jantar Mantar on October 10, with more than 35,000 police and paramilitary personnel expected to be deployed, six designated detention centres identified and drones and facial recognition systems set to monitor the area, news agency ANI reported on Friday. Teams have also been told to avoid verbal confrontations with protesters amid concerns over alleged attempts to record and circulate videos portraying the police in a negative light, ANI reported.
Police teams have been instructed to detain anyone attempting to stage a protest, irrespective of their location, according to the ANI report. The police have also directed Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) units not to issue weapons for the deployment, with letters sent to the concerned directorates regarding the allocation plan. In a departure from the deployment during the INDIA alliance protest, police teams have now been authorised to carry lathis or batons. Delhi Police has maintained that permission has not been granted for the protest.
