The project was announced during former chief minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai ’s tenure with a Rs 70-crore grant, and the foundation stone was laid in March 2023. Of this, Rs 65 crore was initially released for construction. After Congress came to power, another Rs 5 crore was released in March 2026 during then chief minister Siddaramaiah ’s tenure. Havemul contributed Rs 3 crore from its own funds to complete the remaining work, union president Manjanagouda Patil said.

Managing director Pradeep SM said the dairy would create new market opportunities and improve value addition and farmers’ incomes.

Patil said building work was complete and trials were under way. Discussions on inauguration were delayed by the election code of conduct for the West Graduates’ Constituency, and a date will be finalised after discussions with the chief minister.
