He said several cyclists with international experience found cycling in Mysuru comparable to, and at times better than, their experiences in Western countries. Outlining four priorities for Mysuru’s future, Surya opposed the construction of flyovers within the city, arguing they would harm its aesthetics without providing a sustainable solution to traffic congestion. He also called for a fully underground Metro system to meet public transport needs while preserving the city’s heritage and landscape. Surya stressed the need to safeguard tree-lined avenues, parks, lakes and open spaces, describing them as essential to public health and quality of life. He also advocated investment in footpaths, pedestrian crossings, shaded streets and safe public spaces to preserve Mysuru’s walking culture.

Sharing his experience after participating in the L’Étape Mysuru cycling event on Sunday, Surya praised the city’s wide roads, tree-lined avenues, pleasant weather and scenic cycling routes, including the climb up Chamundi Hills and roads leading to Varuna.
