Two siblings held on charge of stabbing fabrication worker to death after row over damaged shoes

Nashik: Two siblings were arrested from Mumbai on Thursday for allegedly stabbing to death a 55-year-old fabrication worker as shoes of one of them was damaged after their motorcycle brushed the victim’s two-wheeler on Balikashram Road in Ahilyanagar on Wednesday evening. The deceased fabrication worker was identified as Ravindra Rambhau Chavan (55), a resident of Bhingardive Mala at Bhutkarwadi in Savedi, Ahilyanagar. The arrested siblings, Suraj Ravi Sonawane and Prem alias Sonulya Ravi Sonawane from Siddharthnagar in Ahilyanagar, were produced before a court and remanded in police custody till Oct 12. Tofkhana police registered a case of murder against Suraj and Sonulya under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Arms Act, 1959, based on a complaint filed by the victim’s son, Manthan Ravindra Chavan (25).

Inspector Balaji Vaidya of Tofkhana police said the accused duo allegedly attacked Ravindra with sharp weapons in the course of the altercation and inflicted severe injuries on his back and left arm. Their two-wheeler slightly sideswiped the motorcycle of the accused. The shoes of one of the riders of the other motorcycle was damaged in the minor collision and an argument broke out over it. Bhakare immediately alerted the victim’s family about the latter’s injury over the phone. Ravindra was rushed to Civil Hospital in Ahilyanagar, where attending doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police said the victim, Ravindra, was riding the motorcycle around 5pm on Wednesday with an acquaintance, Mikhail Shankar Bhakare.
