Kanpur: District magistrate Mahendra Singh Tanwar, chief development officer Abhinav J Jain and municipal commissioner Arpit Upadhyaya inspected sanitation arrangements, garbage collection and ongoing construction works in different parts of the city on Thursday night.
The officers first inspected a garbage vulnerable point (GVP) in an informal settlement near the old bridge in Govind Nagar. Officials informed them that around two metric tonnes of waste were transported daily from the settlement to the site in two Tata Ace vehicles. The DM directed officials to deploy a staff member for regular monitoring of waste disposal and cleanliness at the site.

He said that no compromise on construction quality would be tolerated. The officers subsequently inspected ongoing road construction work near the fruit market opposite Natraj Cinema in Govind Nagar. Taking note of sanitation arrangements, the DM directed officials to improve the regularity and effectiveness of night sweeping in the busy market area. The DM directed officials to collect samples of all construction materials and get their quality tested at HBTU, Kanpur. He also instructed officials to complete ongoing construction and repair works on a priority basis ahead of the upcoming festivals. Download the TOI App.
