Pune: State govt has approved ground truthing surveys in 18 additional talukas, apart from those covered under Trigger-1, to assess crop conditions amid deficient rainfall and other adverse factors during June-Sept 2026. Bawankule said the surveys would cover 20% of the area under the five major crops in all 18 talukas. State govt has already declared drought in 265 talukas based on the conditions during the 2026 kharif crop season and implemented various relief measures and concessions. The issue was discussed at the cabinet subcommittee meeting on Sept 29.

The respective district collectors have been informed about the exercise, revenue officials told TOI . These talukas are Mudkhed and Mukhed in Nanded district; Jivati, Brahmapuri and Ballarpur in Chandrapur; Amgaon, Deori, Salekasa and Gondia in Gondia; Karanja in Wardha; Mohadi and Tumsar in Bhandara; Trimbakeshwar, Chandwad and Niphad in Nashik; Patan in Satara; and Shirala and Walwa in Sangli district. The relief and rehabilitation department approved the exercise following directions from the revenue minister and chairperson of the cabinet subcommittee on drought mitigation, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, after reviewing the situation.
