State govt has yet to clarify the status of the pending assistance or announce a timeline for disbursing fresh aid to the drought-affected farmers
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Ambadas Danve on Friday slammed BJP-led Mahayuti govt over the alleged non-disbursal of financial aid to drought-hit farmers, questioning the fate of the Rs 3,000-crore relief package announced last year, of which nearly Rs 500 crore in dues allegedly remained unpaid. “Govt had announced a Rs 3,000 crore package last year. Around Rs 500 crore from last year is still pending.
“Govt has announced the number of drought-affected talukas.
This is the question we are raising,” Danve said. It should now tell farmers what assistance it intends to provide and when,” he said. Danve took a swipe at govt’s handling of the agrarian crisis and said farmers continued to suffer severe financial stress. Such is the grim situation they are facing,” he said. But govt is least concerned about the farmers, who are ending their lives unable to bear the stress,” Kshirsagar said.
Raising the issue amid mounting agrarian distress, Danve accused govt of making lofty announcements without ensuring that relief actually reached farmers on the ground. Where did that package go? The MLC also sought clarity on the assistance planned for farmers affected by the ongoing drought, saying while govt had identified drought-hit talukas, it had yet to spell out the nature or timeline of financial support. “Farmers are dying by suicide every day. Backing the criticism, All India Kisan Sabha president Rajaj Kshirsagar alleged that farmers reeling from repeated crop losses had been denied timely compensation and support. “Farmers facing successive agricultural setbacks have been seeking timely compensation and financial support to manage mounting losses.
We are demanding accountability for pending dues and a clear commitment on fresh relief for farmers,” Akram said. Congress city district president Syed Akram echoed the opposition’s concerns, saying the core issue was the widening gap between govt assurances and the actual delivery of relief. “Danve’s criticism reflects the concerns raised by all opposition parties.
