Crop loss survey stepped up in Ballarpur

Chandrapur : District collector Vasumana Pant on Friday visited affected farms in Ashti Rith and Palsgaon to assess the damage to paddy and cotton crops in Ballarpur taluka, which has been excluded from Chandrapur district’s drought-affected list.

Pant directed officials to immediately complete ground-truthing of 20% of Ballarpur taluka’s total sown area and submit a report without delay. Field-level verification has been accelerated following govt orders to conduct on-ground assessment of drought conditions in excluded Ballarpur, Jiwati and Brahmapuri talukas. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis ’s directions to examine drought conditions in Ballarpur and other excluded talukas came after local MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar raised the issue. Pant interacted with affected farmers to understand the impact of the deficient rainfall and likely decline in agricultural output. She also sought a detailed assessment from district superintendent agriculture officer Shankar Totawar.
