Pune: A 30-year-old man walked into Sangvi police station on Friday morning and told the police that he had killed his step-grandmother at her home in New Sangvi over a property dispute.
The incident came to light around 9.30am when the man approached the police station while personnel were attending to their routine duties. The shocked police personnel alerted their senior officers and rushed to the spot, where they found Mangal Shingore (60) lying in the bathroom with her throat slit. On Tuesday (Oct 6), Pune Rural police arrested an 83-year-old man from Lonavla for allegedly shooting his 33-year-old grandson dead over a property dispute.
This was the second murder linked to a property dispute reported in the Pune region since Monday.
“We arrested her grandson, Omkar Kisan Shingore (30), a resident of Pimple Gurav, on the charge of murder,” inspector Amol Nandekar of Sangvi police said. Deputy commissioner of police (zone I) Sandeep Atole of Pimpri Chinchwad police said that Shingore was the accused’s step-grandmother. “There are six tenants in the building, and the woman used to earn around Rs50,000 a month in rent,” Atole said.
The accused has a previous criminal record and lives with his father in Rajiv Gandhinagar in Pimple Gurav. The victim, meanwhile, lived in a three-storey building constructed by her husband. The police also arrested four family members for allegedly destroying evidence.
“Our investigation is on,” Atole said. When the police reached the spot, the woman was found lying unconscious in the bathroom. She was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
