Amid rising concerns for women’s safety, the CJP is preparing to stage a protest in New Delhi on October 10 at Jantar Mantar
Delhi Police denies permission for CJP protest
Three women journalists had alleged sexual harassment by Delhi Police personnel during a protest on October 3. On October 9, the National Human Rights Commission took suo motu cognisance of the journalists’ allegations and sought a detailed report from the Delhi Police commissioner within two weeks.
NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has questioned Delhi Police over its handling of law and order and women’s safety, sharing a post on X showing women carrying banners reading “AM I NEXT?” ahead of its proposed October 10 protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. “Delhi Police’s handling of law and order has forced women to come out carrying banners that read “AM I NEXT? Is a peaceful protest more “SERIOUS” than this?” the CJP posted.
Crimes against Women continue to horrify Delhi every single day. The post comes amid a wider row over police conduct during recent demonstrations in the capital. Delhi Police has prepared an extensive security plan ahead of the proposed demonstration, with barricades, checkpoints and preventive measures planned across the capital.
Delhi Police has denied permission for the protest, citing the late submission of the application, alleged non-compliance with directions during an earlier demonstration, and concerns over public safety, law and order and traffic management.
