Bijnor : A govt primary school teacher in Bijnor narrowly avoided “losing” Rs 9 lakh in an alleged cyber fraud case after his 10-year-old son downloaded a new mobile game on the father’s phone and shared an OTP.
He clicked on a suspicious link while trying to download a new game and was tricked into sharing an OTP, following which cyber fraudsters transferred Rs 9 lakh from his father’s bank account via UPI transactions. Bijnor’s circle officer (CO) Abhay Kumar Pandey said, “The boy was fond of playing mobile games. His dad then — within minutes — lodged a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal which helped freeze the transferred funds to the suspected fraudsters’ accounts,” CO Pandey said, adding the incident took place in Bijnor’s Indralok Colony earlier in the week. The amount was purportedly transferred to a bank branch in Rajasthan, according to preliminary findings. Police said they are now examining phone and bank account details of the culprits, and have assured the teacher of getting back his money soon.
