Agra: A 52-year-old govt school teacher was shot dead by three unidentified assailants while returning home from school on Monday afternoon in Uttar Pradesh ’s Mainpuri district. The victim, Yashpal Singh , was a former Indian Air Force personnel and was posted at an upper primary school in Usmanpur.
Singh was riding his motorcycle home around 2 pm when three men on another bike intercepted him, according to police. Mainpuri ASP Abhishek Tiwari said, “Preliminary findings point to an ongoing land dispute. Two rounds were fired, with one bullet hitting Singh in the abdomen, causing him to collapse on the road. Livestock herders grazing animals in nearby fields witnessed the attack and alerted the village head, Sanjeev Kumar. Meanwhile, another teacher, Suman, who was travelling a few metres behind Singh, informed his family. Family members took Singh to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Originally from Agra district, Singh had been living in Mainpuri for several years. He joined the education department following his retirement from IAF. A team from Alau police station took custody of the body and sent it for postmortem. The attackers have been identified and will be nabbed soon. Download the TOI App.
