Ahmedabad: Vidushi Gargi Centre for Women Development at Gujarat Technological University, in collaboration with the Gender Resource Centre under the state govt’s women and child development department, organized a special session titled ‘Safe, Healthy and Inclusive Environment’ under the Sustaining Equality through Universities & Colleges (SETU) initiative at its Chandkheda campus. Centred around safety, health, and equality, the event aimed to promote awareness regarding women’s security, nutritional well-being, gender sensitivity, and inclusive institutional practices, alongside a free health check-up camp organized for preventive care among participants. Addressing key operational and social aspects, experts from various domains led focused sessions throughout the event. Margi Parekh, professor at Gujarat University’s BK School of Professional and Management Studies, spoke on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, stressing workplace dignity, institutional accountability, and standard grievance redressal mechanisms. Addressing physical health, Priyam Sharma, a clinical dietitian and technical research assistant at IIT Gandhinagar, highlighted the significance of balanced diets, healthy lifestyle choices, and preventive healthcare tailored for women. Further expanding on equity, Hiral Parmar, assistant professor at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, discussed the necessity of fostering gender-sensitive, inclusive academic and professional environments built on mutual respect. The initiative was held under the guidance of GTU officiating vice-chancellor Vaibhav Bhatt and registrar K N Kher, with coordination led by SETU nodal officer Komal R Borisagar alongside the university’s WDC team. Through the session, GTU reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to cultivating a campus culture that prioritises safety, health, dignity, and equal opportunity for all stakeholders.
