The jeweller sent 17 gold sets with earrings, weighing 646.5g, to the unit through two employees for stone-setting work. However, the workers disappeared when it was time to collect the jewellery
Ahmedabad: Trust built on an earlier completed order allegedly cost an Ahmedabad jeweller Rs 87.8 lakh. The complainant, who runs a jewellery shop on CG Road, said he had approached a jewellery unit in New Vadaj in Dec 2025 on the recommendation of one of his employees. On Dec 22, 2025, the jeweller sent 17 gold sets with earrings, weighing 646.5g, to the unit through two employees for stone-setting work, according to the complaint. On Dec 24, when one of the jeweller’s employees called to check on the order, one of the accused reportedly asked him to collect the jewellery that night. The following day, the jeweller visited the unit and was informed by the society chairperson that the occupants had vacated the rented premises during the night of Dec 24. The complainant alleged that the accused had acted in collusion to cheat him and sought action for the recovery of the 17 gold sets.
The jeweller has accused three people of taking gold sets for stone-setting work and disappearing without returning them, said police. The jeweller also visited their residential address but could not locate them, according to the complaint. The ornaments were handed over at the premises, and the accused allegedly issued a handwritten acknowledgement mentioning the weight of the gold. The three people allegedly promised to complete the work and return the ornaments within three to four days. However, when the employee called again, the phone was switched off, the complaint stated. Repeated calls to the three accused and their business associate allegedly went unanswered, with their mobile phones switched off.
The unit had earlier completed an order involving three pairs of gold sets and returned them on time, which led the jeweller to trust the operators, the complaint stated.
