Lucknow: Upset over his 20-year-old daughter’s inter-caste marriage against the family’s wishes, a farmer in Chandauli performed her symbolic funeral rites and declared that he has severed all ties with her.
The incident was reported on Saturday in a village, about three kilometres from the district headquarters.
The family said that repeated efforts were made to persuade her to return home, but she refused, due to which tension escalated.
The farmer conducted a symbolic ‘pind daan’ and other post-death rituals under a peepal tree near his residence, according to family members. I don’t consider her a part of my family,” the farmer said. Her choice of partner from another caste has caused emotional distress to the entire family,” the woman’s uncle said.
“I was deeply hurt by my daughter’s decision to marry without our consent. This symbolic act is an expression of my anguish and disappointment. “We raised her with love and care. No complaint was lodged by the family in this connection.
