Kolkata: A woman residing on Bidhan Sarani in the Girish Park police station area was allegedly assaulted, her modesty outraged and her household and vehicular property ransacked following a violent and forced entry into her residence allegedly by her former driver and his cronies on Sunday evening, police said.
The incident occurred around 8 pm on Oct 4, when the former driver, accompanied by three family members and 4–5 unidentified associates, forcibly entered her residential premises, according to police. The group allegedly launched an unprovoked verbal assault using offensive language before issuing severe death threats.
Cops said a previous enmity led to the attack. Preliminary enquiries indicate that the victim, who has been battling ongoing health complications, was threatened with dire consequences if she approached police. Officers at the Girish Park police station have initiated a case under relevant sections pertaining to criminal trespass, assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage modesty, criminal intimidation and mischief causing damage to property.
An inquiry has been launched, and the CCTV footage is being carefully analyzed to trace and apprehend all the individuals involved in the violent attack,” a senior officer of Kolkata Police stated. The complaint claimed that the intruders escalated the altercation into physical violence, using criminal force to assault the woman. The miscreants allegedly grabbed her, struck her in the abdomen and outraged her modesty. Before fleeing the spot, the group went on a rampage inside the residence, damaging a computer, television set, furniture and a scooter parked at the property. The victim sustained physical injuries and suffered severe mental shock and trauma following the assault. “We have received the complaint along with electronic evidence provided by the victim.
Crucially, the complainant has submitted closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage capturing the breach and photographs documenting the extensive property damage to aid the investigation.
