Howrah : A 35-year-old electrical mechanic, Anjan Chakraborty, was brutally murdered on Sunday morning in a secluded spot between two high-rises on Sarat Chatterjee Road, roughly 80 metres from Nabanna.
Upon receiving information, the Chatterjeehat police station recovered the body around 10 am and sent it for an autopsy. Because he was responsible for the electrical illumination work for multiple Durga Puja committees, nobody knew precisely when he returned home late on Saturday night, and the family only learnt of the tragedy through a phone call from neighbours on Sunday morning.
The victim’s brother, Amit Chakraborty, said that Anjan lived alone in one flat while his two other brothers lived with their families in separate flats in the same building. A senior Howrah City police officer said that the body bears multiple sharp stab marks from large nails and that the nature of the death is quite unusual. Being unmarried and somewhat free-spirited, Anjan kept his own flat keys and would come and go as he pleased, with his family keeping his food covered separately in the kitchen. Police suspect that the victim may have been heavily intoxicated during the attack, which likely prevented him from screaming out or putting up any resistance, and they are currently reviewing CCTV footage to solve the mystery quickly.
Locals discovered the body during the daytime on Sunday and alerted the victim’s family.
Chakraborty was repeatedly stabbed and punctured to death with large, pointed nails, according to his family and neighbours. Police recovered multiple sharp stab wounds across his body and neck, along with a bloodstained nail found right in front of the corpse. The gruesome incident has sent shockwaves of panic through the upscale neighbourhood near Nabanna in Howrah.
