CM Suvendu Adhikari leads a victory rally in Kolkata after BJP’s bypoll sweep
“People of Nandigram and Rejinagar have responded to the canards. This has sent a message across the society. Today’s religion is democracy and today’s politics is development,” Bhattacharya said, stressing a development-oriented and inclusive outreach towards the minority community.
Kolkata: CM Suvendu Adhikari on Monday said the incumbent govt’s thrust on “development” had brought minorities into BJP fold. As the party celebrated its Rejinagar and Nandigram bypoll victories, Adhikari said although minorities had not voted for BJP in the 2026 assembly elections, that could not stop “Narendra Modi’s victory march”. Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said people of the state were pushed into divisive politics and BJP was portrayed as an anti-Muslim party. “Muslims were told that if they voted for BJP, it would ruin Bengal. People of Rejinagar have made it clear they do not want a Babri mosque, but a factory instead,” he said.
The bypolls have proved that the minority community wants education and jobs. They want a healthy society. Our fight is not against any community or person.
“There will not be any change in govt, in Centre or state, for the next 20 years.
Taking a dig at the opposition, Bhattacharya said that Bengal does not have any party in opposition now. People can criticise us, but a non-issue should not be turned into an issue,” the BJP state president said.
Addressing a rally in the city, the CM said: “A perception was being created in Bengal and people were told that BJP only gets Hindu votes. Members of a community were told they would be sent to Bangladesh if BJP wins the poll in Bengal. Lashing out at Trinamool for “trying to divide us on language”, Adhikari said BJP govt had fulfilled 40% of promises made in its poll manifesto in just five-and-a-half months. “Very soon, Bengal will see investment in Haldia Petrochemicals and from Reliance Industries,” he added. “You have given a double engine to the state, now I am asking for a triple engine — Howrah and Kolkata (municipalities),” he said.
Narendra Modi’s victory march could not be stopped Although they did not vote for BJP. They have seen that. That is why they have joined the path to development.
