Nashik : A 41-year-old ‘mentally unstable’ man was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people following an argument in Rahul Nagar, behind Gandhinagar on Pune Road, under Upnagar police station jurisdiction on Sunday evening.
Inspector Pise said police had initially registered as an accidental death, but the post-mortem report confirmed death due to neck trauma and head injuries.
Police said the youth’s family members and several bystanders intervened to free him and allegedly assaulted Bhalerao. Police identified the deceased as Pradeep Kailas Bhalerao, a resident of Panchasheel Nagar on Takli Road. He suffered severe head and facial injuries during the assault and was rushed to Bytco Hospital in Nashik Road, where he was declared brought dead. Investigators found that along with physical assault, a nylon rope and a saree or dupatta were also used during the attack. They claimed the issue had been brought to the police’s notice on multiple occasions. Police were in the process of registering an FIR against the four individuals involved in the assault at the time of going to the press.
Residents of the area had earlier complained about Bhalerao’s behaviour, alleging that he occasionally attacked passersby and threw stones at people.
