Barricades were placed near Statesman House on Barakhamba Road, and with the CP-Barakhamba Road junction packed with people and crowds spilling across the carriageway, the road was effectively out of bounds for commuters. There was barely a vehicle in sight in the area, with people stretching across the road as far as the eye could see. Some supporters climbed atop buses to wave party flags, while slogans rang out along the stretch. Protesters were also seen sitting on the roads as the gathering swelled. The traffic congestion quickly spilled over to adjacent areas. The stretch between Connaught Place and Mandi House was choked, with all six connecting roads also reporting heavy traffic. Sikandra Road and Bhagwan Das Road were among the affected stretches. Tilak Marg was also congested, while KG Marg faced a ripple effect as motorists took adjoining routes to bypass Barakhamba Road. Delhi Traffic Police issued an alert, saying traffic was affected on Copernicus Marg, Tilak Marg and C-Hexagon near India Gate. Commuters were advised to use Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Mathura Road as alternatives. The disruption drew sharp reactions online, with commuters warning others to stay away from the stretches. One user posted on social media, “Barakhamba Road is not barricaded but occupied. Traffic still (moving) towards Connaught Place side but it’s quite a crawl. Avoid.
