The New Zealand-based stepsons opposed their mother Kamal Kaur’s love marriage to Navjot, which took place a year ago, according to Nishan. Avdeep had returned to India five days before the murder, Nishan said. Additional SP Anurag Singh said Avdeep and Rajandeep, both of whom are absconding, had committed the murder.
The trader, Navjot Singh, was shot dead around 5pm after he tried to overpower one of the attackers. The incident took place in the area under Milak Khanam police station. His father Nishan Singh, a farmer, alleged that Navjot’s two stepsons, who live in New Zealand, conspired with a cousin to kill him over their mother’s second marriage. Navjot’s father, Nishan Singh, named seven people in his complaint, including his stepsons, Avdeep and his brother and their cousin Rajandeep. He alleged that they had conspired to murder Navjot. The father also sought protection for his daughter-in-law following the killing. Police are searching for the two men. The investigation is under way. Download the TOI App.
