Farmers block the Pune-Bengaluru national highway bypass near Yarikoppa off Dharwad on Tuesday to press for the fulfilment of their demands

Farmers said sugarcane prices should reflect production costs. The farmers assembled around 9am and raised slogans urging govt to announce a fair sugarcane price. Police made elaborate security arrangements amid concerns that the protest could intensify. Hubballi-Dharwad traffic police diverted vehicles to alternative routes to prevent congestion and advised motorists to use them until the protest ended. Sugarcane growers across Karnataka have intensified their agitation, seeking higher cane prices, revision of the minimum selling price of sugar and other measures.
