Madikeri : Kodagu district Congress minority leaders have alleged injustice towards the Muslim community in the draft reservation list for zilla and taluk panchayat elections and decided to submit a written objection to the State Election Commission.
At a meeting in Madikeri, the leaders said the community had been sidelined despite significant numbers of minority voters in the district’s constituencies. Some said they might resort to non-cooperation during the elections if opportunities were not provided through the reservation list. They termed the lack of representation in the reservation allocation a hostile move and sought amendments to ensure justice for the community. The leaders also demanded that Kodagu District Congress unit allocate tickets to minority candidates in at least five to six ZP seats.
KPCC member K Yaqoob expressed surprise over the allocations and said the party president and MLA should have ensured arrangements for minority candidates to contest at least five constituencies in the district. He said Kodagu’s Muslim community would need to come together soon to decide its course of action. The community had long worked with Congress in partnership and trust but had not received a single opportunity in the party over the past three years, he said.
